For the second time since rejoining the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James will poll his fans via social media, this time, regarding a certain pregame ritual. The infamous tossing of the chalk before games has always been a signature move for ‘The King,’ a practice that he momentarily halted while with the Miami Heat during the playoffs in 2011. Apparently his triumphant return to Cleveland has LeBron feeling nostalgic.
“I may,” James replied when asked whether the ritual that started in Cleveland would resume. “I’m going to let the fans decide and see what they think. If they want me to, I will do it.”
Upon rekindling his relationship with the Cavaliers, James took to Instagram to ask fans which jersey number he should wear after his four year stint in South Beach. Number 23, his original Cavs number, was overwhelmingly selected.
Now James will pose a different question to his faithful followers on social media. After reclaiming the infamous number it only seems right for the ‘Chosen One’ to go back to his pregame ritual. It’s a comforting reminder to Clevelanders that the Cavs, with LeBron, were once dominant and should assuredly re-reach the pinnacle that was once their standard.
If nothing else, the now infamous ‘chalk toss’ will excite the city that adored the humble kid from Akron before he became a big shot in south Florida.
